Insperity Invitational Odds: Furyk Favored to Win Tournament

This week marks the PGA Tour Champions’ Insperity Invitational. The event will be held at the Woodlands Country Club in a suburb of Houston, Texas and will run from Friday, April 30 to Sunday, May 2.

For those who are unaware, the PGA Tour Champions is not the same as the regular PGA Tour. Instead, the former is for professional golfers who are 50 or older and was formerly known as the Senior PGA Tour.

Jim Furyk is currently favored to win the Insperity Invitational at +450 odds, according to BetOnline. It’s his first time being eligible for the event as he turned 50 after the previous one. Fortunately, Furyk has been looking good in regards to the PGA Tour Champions.

He’s has competed at eight tournaments, finishing in the top-25 in each of them. He’s also won two tournaments on the tour, but that was back in Augusta and September. Regardless, with most of the world’s top golfers being ineligible to compete at the event, it’s not shocking to see Furyk with the top odds.

Sutherland Has Second-Best Tournament Odds

If anyone’s been having success on the PGA Tour Champions, it’s 56-year-old Kevin Sutherland (+600). The veteran has competed in 18 events on the tour this season, finishing in the top-25 in all but one of them. That also includes two tournament wins, with the most recent being the Cologuard Classic at the end of February 2021.

You can also look at Sutherland’s past performances at the Woodlands Country Club. He’s competed there five times for the Insperity Invitational, with his best result coming in 2017 when he finished in 4th. Since then, his positioning has been getting worse each year, so look for Sutherland to try and bounce back this week.

2021 Insperity Invitational Odds: Langer Could Be a Dark Horse

While his +750 odds may give him the third-best shot at winning the tournament, don’t underestimate German golfer Bernhard Langer. The 63-year-old holds the record for most wins in the tournament’s history with four, with his most recent victory coming in 2018. No other player has even won it twice, so that shows you just the kind of success Langer has had in the past.

Langer is also a two-time Masters winner, having won the event back in 1985 and 1993. Despite those wins happening decades ago, he just finished T-29th at the 2021 Masters Tournament, showing that he can still compete with the world’s best despite his age.

However, most of his work this season has been done on the 2020-21 PGA Tour Champions. Langer has competed in 18 events on the tour with 13 top-10 finishes and a victory at the 2020 Cologuard Classic. It may have been over a year since Langer last won a tournament, but if there’s anyone that can be a sneaky pick at the Insperity Invitational this week, it could be him.
