Leonard Fournette Odds: Running Back Likely to Return to Tampa

Leonard Fournette had a wild 2020 NFL Season. He started as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, only for them to waive him when they couldn’t find a trade partner. Fournette promptly signed a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and went on to win the Super Bowl on their roster.

The 26-year-old running back played 13 regular-season games with the Buccaneers, accumulating 600 total yards and six touchdowns. Most of his stats were down because of him splitting carries with Ronald Jones. However, Fournette was an integral part of the team’s Super Bowl run. In four playoff games, he tallied 448 total yards and four touchdowns.

Leonard Fournette is currently a free agent. According to Bovada’s odds list, the likeliest scenario for him is a return to Tampa. The odds of that happening are -175, which makes sense.

Judging by interviews, Fournette has said that he enjoyed his first season as a Buccaneer. He’s constantly mentioning how he was excited to play with Tom Brady. If Fournette thinks that there’s a good chance that the Buccaneers can win back-to-back Super Bowls, him taking a pay cut to stay is a possibility.

Which Team Will Leonard Fournette Play For Game 1 Of The 2021 Regular Season?

Odds via Bovada as of Wednesday, March 24

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers -175
  • New England Patriots +300
  • Seattle Seahawks +350
  • Miami Dolphins +1200
  • New York Jets +1200
  • Pittsburgh Steelers +1200
  • Detroit Lions +1400

Patriots in the Mix for Leonard Fournette

At +300, the New England Patriots have the second-best odds of landing Leonard Fournette. NFL reporter Albert Breer reported that the Patriots were quite interested in Fournette’s services this offseason. The team’s former No. 1 running back James White is a free agent, which leaves Sony Michel and Damien Harris as New England’s top running back options.

The Patriots have shown that they’re willing to spend money this offseason. They’ve brought in tight ends Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith, and wide receiver Nelson Agholor to help the offense. If they believe that the 2020 postseason version of Leonard Fournette is who he really is, the Patriots may make a financial push for him.

Fournette, Brown Linked to the Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have +350 odds of signing Leonard Fournette, according to Bovada. However, he’s not the only Buccaneers free agent who could end up there. Wide receiver Antonio Brown also has a shot at ending up in Seattle after it’s been reported that quarterback Russell Wilson would like him on the team.

So, what does that have to do with Fournette’s odds of ending up as a Seahawk? Brown has been making social media posts, asking fans where he and Fournette should end up. The two have also been working out together this offseason.

Regardless, Leonard Fournette would be a welcomed addition to the Seahawks. Even though the team just re-signed No. 1 running back Chris Carson, they could use the former Buccaneer’s help. Carson missed four games last season and didn’t put up the stats that he usually does due to a lack of touches.

  • Chris Carson in 2019: 15 GP, 1,230 rushing yards, seven rushing TDs, 18.5 touches per game.
  • Chris Carson in 2020: 12 GP, 681 rushing yards, five rushing TDs, 11.8 touches per game.

Signing Fournette would give the Seahawks an insurance policy if Carson ever misses time in the worst-case scenario. At the same time, if Carson remains healthy, Fournette would give them a two-head rushing attack.
