Maryland Casinos Generate More Revenue in February As They Prepare to Launch Online Sports Betting

The state of Maryland has six brick-and-mortar casinos that generated combined total gaming revenue of $162,965,304 in February. This was a 29.1 percent or $36,757,280 increase from February 2021's revenue.

The figure represents a period in which all casinos operated under strict COVID-19 measures. Still, it was 6 percent more than the $153.75 million they generated in January.

How Does Maryland Use These Funds?

The state spends part of its casinos' proceeds on programs like the Education Trust Fund. Also, it aids jurisdictions and communities where certain casinos operate, minority and women-owned enterprises, and the horse racing industry.

Gaming contributions from local casinos reached $68,237,059, and it was more than a $15 million increase from those made last year. The Education Trust Fund received most of the contributions, almost $50 million, and it was more than $10 million increase the amount it got in February last year.

The casino has 204 table games and 2,126 slot machines. It earned $65,837,104 in February 2020, which was a 29.5 percent, or $15,003,861 increase from the revenue it got in February 2021.

Live! Casino & Hotel

It has 187 table games and 2,126 slot machines. The casino generated $17,718,142 in February 2022, which was a 23.8 percent, or $3,403,987 increase from the money it earned in February 2021.

Horseshoe Casino

The casino has 145 table games and 1,451 slot machines. It generated $17,718,142 in February 2022, which was a 23.8 percent or $3,403,987 increase from the revenue it got in February 2021.

Hollywood Casino

It has 18 table games and 714 slot machines. The casino generated $7,866,631 in February 2022. This was a 24.9 percent or $1,570,311 increase from the revenue it earned in February 2021.

Ocean Downs Casino

The casino has 18 table games and 823 slot machines. It generated $6,592,413 in February 2022, which was a 13.6 percent or $787,043 increase from its February 2021 revenue.

Rocky Gap Casino

It has 16 table games and 625 slot machines. The casino earned $5,512,955 in February 2022. This was a 38.2 percent, or $1,523,704 increase from the revenue it generated in February 2021.
