Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment Reveals More Details on Vegas Casino

Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment is a hospitality and tribal casino operator based in the United States. The company is currently working on constructing a new casino in the city of Las Vegas, the Mohegan Sun Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. The venue has been in the works for quite some time and now the operator has provided more information on its design as well as those in charge.

Details of the New Casino

The operator unveiled the new logo, the Mohegan Sun Casino at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas late last week. Mohegan will be operating the first ever-tribal casino in Sin City. The facility will be over 60,000 square feet in size and will be located within Virgin Hotels.

There were many months of speculation before it was made known that the Virgin Hotels property would see the Mohegan operating a casino from the facility. Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment announced their partnership with Virgin businessman Richard Branson late last year.

The casino property will be subject to a large renovation and will be transformed, opening later this year. It will replace the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Virgin Hotels purchased the former Hard Rock in early 2018 and planned to spend around $150 million in renovating the property. It was soon after, that Virgin announced they would spend even more, around $200 million on the design.

With the original plans for the property, Virgin Hotels was to partially close in Las Vegas as the renovation work began. However, the owners decided to close the full resort to complete the transformation stage. The closure is set for about eight months.

New General Manager

As the Mohegan expands their company into the gambling mecca of Las Vegas, they have appointed a new General Manager. Joe Hasson has been chosen for the role, leading the company as they charge ahead to enter the gambling city. Hasson will be in charge of leading the strategic direction of the facility within its business operations as well as financial performance.

Tyler Conover was also recently appointed by Mohegan to take on the role of the Director of Marketing for the new venue. He will work to build the gambling facility’s presence and push key initiatives to help attract visitors once the venue is open.

The Las Vegas casino will be the second one to operate under the Mohegan Sun brand. The company has been quite successful with their Mohegan Sun Casino in the state of Connecticut.

It will be interesting to see if the Las Vegas property can stay on track and open as scheduled. The Covid-19 outbreak has played a major role in the shutdown of the casino industry as a whole. If the virus continues to be a problem into the fall, the new casino may have to postpone their opening or only open at a lower capacity with restrictions in place.

Casinos began reopening in Las Vegas back in early June at 50% capacity and with requirements such as social distancing. The venues now require masks as the number of positive Covid-19 cases in the state continues to increase. We shall stay tuned and report on any new details of the Mohegan Sun property, including if they will open as expected later this year.
