New England Patriots at Washington Redskins Betting Preview

Week 5 of the 2019 NFL season is here, and there are just a handful of undefeated and winless teams remaining. Coincidentally, one of the matchups on the Week 5 schedule will feature the undefeated New England Patriots taking on the winless Washington Redskins.

The spread for this game is set at 15.0 points, and the Patriots are used to be double-digit favorites this season. Washington is looking to turn its season around, but it likely won’t happen in this game.

New England has rolled out to a perfect 4-0 start this season, although they were tested a bit in Week 4. The Patriots were able to hold off a feisty Buffalo Bills squad to earn the 16-10 win and stay atop the AFC East Division.

Washington brings an abysmal 0-4 record into this matchup, and none of their losses have really been close. The Redskins have been outscored by a combined 37 points in their last two losses, and their playoff hopes are fading in a hurry. These are two of the most storied and historic franchises in football, but only one of them is making their fans proud this season.

Redskins Are A Mess At Quarterback

Some teams have a quarterback controversy, but the Washington Redskins have a quarterback problem. The Redskins have three quarterbacks on their active roster, but there isn’t a single one that is healthy enough or effective enough to be a starter. Washington inserted rookie Dwayne Haskins into the game in the Week 4 loss, but he struggled in his first time on an NFL field. The Redskins are averaging just 16.5 points per game this season, and that just won’t get it done on a consistent basis.

The Redskins were hoping to at least have a terrific defense this season, but that hasn’t been the case either. Washington is allowing close to 30 points per game, and its pass defense has been abysmal of late. The Redskins have recorded just five sacks so far this season, and they will need to find a way to get pressure on Tom Brady in this game.

Patriots Defense Has Been Great

Most people think of offense when they think of the New England Patriots, but it has been their defense that has been consistent this season. New England is allowing less than seven points per game this season, and it has given up 10 or fewer points in three of their wins. The Patriots lead the league with 18 sacks through their first four games, and they will likely record a bunch more in this one.

Brady has put up some great numbers this season, but he is still not playing his best brand of football. Brady is completing just 62 percent of his passes this season, and he hasn’t been looking to throw the ball deep as much. The Patriots are running for just 91 yards per game this season, and they will need to fix that if they are going to stay undefeated for much longer. New England will be able to score against the Redskins, but they have much higher aspirations.

New England Blows Out Horrible Washington Team

The New England Patriots look like one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl again this season, and the Washington Redskins might be the worst team in the NFL. There are always huge surprises and upsets each week in the NFL, but this game won’t be one of them. New England should score at will against a bad Redskins defense, and the Patriots defense might pitch a shutout in this one.

Washington has plenty to figure out, and taking on the defending Super Bowl champions won’t give them any answers. Bet the New England Patriots -15.0 over the Washington Redskins in this Week 5 matchup.
