New York’s Resorts World Catskills Prepares for Sports Betting

The state of New York is one of several that is preparing to launch sports betting services. For months now, we have watched as state after state approves the industry and begins setting up operators with licensing so services can begin. This week, it is expected that the Resorts World Catskills will open their sportsbook, having recently added new partnership with Betgenius and IGT.

Ready to Go

Resorts World Catskills has been busy. While preparing to open their new on-property sportsbook titled Sportsbook 360, the brand has also added to their partnerships by now working with Betgenius and IGT. The company already works with bet365. Resorts World is one of the four commercial casinos in the state that was approved to provide sports betting.

Resorts World is working fast to launch before the new NFL season begins. The first game kicks off on September 5th. The new space is being created in the hopes of bringing in new traffic from the tri-state area. The casino is close to New York City and should benefit from traffic of the region.

Kevin Kline, the COO and General Manager of the Property, stated that the casino is excited to have partnered with IGT PlaySports and Betgenius, companies that are recognized as world leaders when it comes to sports betting technology and services. The partnerships will help Sportsbook 360 to further position the brand as the newest and closest fully integrated gaming resort to Manhattan.

Details of the Sportsbook

The new sportsbook is set to launch on Thursday at 6:30 pm with the first bets placed at 7pm. It is customary for new facilities to have a ceremonial first bet and Resorts World Catskills has decided to choose former New York Jets wide receiver Santana Moss and former New York Knicks players John Starks and Larry Johnson to do the honors.

Once the first bets are placed, the facility will be open for business, ready to take bets on the first NFL game, the Green Bay Packers against the Chicago Bears.

In terms of the new partnership deals, Betgenius has spoken out about working with the new sportsbook. COO of the company, Jack Davison, stated that Betgenius is proud to play a key role in the new sportsbook of the Resorts World Catskills. The facility will be utilizing the premium sports betting content of Betgenius for sportsbook management, offering customers the ‘most extensive and engaging sports betting experience.’

Over the next few days, we should see just how well received sports betting will be in New York. As the only facility offering such services, it will not be surprising to see Resorts World Catskills super busy as players visit the casino to place their bets on this weekends games plus future prospects

No Mobile

While New York will offer land-based sports betting, they will not have a mobile component for the time being. Time and time again, the mobile aspect has proven to be quite lucrative when it comes to sports betting as well as other forms of gambling.

Over the next few weeks, we shall see just how much revenue the land-based sportsbook at the Resorts World Catskills can generate. The figures are sure to be compared with other states that offer only land-based options as well as those that provide a mobile component.

If revenues are below estimated projections, lawmakers might be more open to the idea of allowing online gambling to increase revenue production.
