NFL Free Agency Affecting Futures Odds

The first few days of the 2020 free agency period have forced some drastic changes to future odds of some teams across the NFL. FanDuel continues to update its NFL Futures odds as each deal is made, and there are some teams that have seen major changes over the last week.

It’s important to note that free agency affects futures odds every single year, but there has been a slew of big-name players that have already shifted teams. Future odds will likely be changed again at the completion of the NFL Draft when more trades are made, and some teams are able to land their franchise quarterback.

Three teams have seen their odds change over the last few days, and there are still three key veteran quarterbacks that are searching for a new job.

Brady Bolsters Bucs Win Total

One of the biggest winners so far in NFL free agency has been the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa Bay was able to land free-agent quarterback Tom Brady, who is one of the best players in NFL history.

Brady heads to the Buccaneers after a stellar 20-year career in New England that saw him lead the Patriots to six Super Bowl championships.

FanDuel set the win total at 7.5 wins for the Buccaneers heading into the 2020 regular season, but things have now changed in a big way. FanDuel has adjusted the projected win total to 9.0 games, which would almost guarantee the Buccaneers of a playoff spot in the NFC.

Patriots Odds are Tanking

Heading into the 2020 regular season, FanDuel had set the over/under for Patriots wins at 10.5. There were obviously some big question marks in terms of whether or not Brady would sign with the team.

After the departure of Brady, FanDuel has lowered the Patriots projected win total to 9.5 games. It’s important to note that the Patriots are still the favorites to win the AFC East Division, even without Brady.

The Patriots have also said goodbye to several other key veterans over the last week, leaving some to question if the Patriots will tank in 2020. Quarterback Jarrett Stidham is currently the only quarterback remaining on the Patriots roster from last season, with Brian Hoyer signing with New England over the weekend, but that will change before opening day.

Can Cardinals Reach .500 Mark?

The Arizona Cardinals currently sit at 7.5 wins at FanDuel, but there is a strong possibility that they could reach the .500 mark this season. Arizona recently made a trade with the Houston Texans to bring in wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

Hopkins will instantly slide into a top wide receiver role with the team and should form a connection with reigning NFC Offensive Rookie of the Year, Kyler Murray.

Where Will Newton, Winston, Dalton Land?

Veteran quarterbacks Cam Newton, Jameis Winston, and Andy Dalton are all looking for new jobs after their former teams have essentially replaced them. There are still some teams that are looking for quarterbacks on the open market, and they would love to get their hands on one of these three players.

Here are the odds from FanDuel as to where each player will play in 2020.

Cam Newton

  • Washington Redskins +200
  • Miami Dolphins +300
  • Jacksonville Jaguars +300
  • Denver Broncos +750
  • New England Patriots +750

Jameis Winston

  • Jacksonville Jaguars +220
  • Miami Dolphins +320
  • Washington Redskins +420
  • New Orleans Saints +500
  • Denver Broncos +750

Andy Dalton

  • Jacksonville Jaguars +200
  • Washington Redskins +200
  • Los Angeles Chargers +350
  • New England Patriots +750
  • Miami Dolphins +850

The Jacksonville Jaguars, Miami Dolphins, and New England Patriots are three of the teams that have the biggest quarterback need.
