$100K Prize Pool for “The Cage” Set for Oct. 8 at WPN

$100K Prize Pool for "The Cage" Set for Oct. 8 at WPNThe innovative tournament/cash game known as “The Cage” has amassed a prize pool of $100,000 five days before the event takes place.

Introduced by the Winning Poker Network (WPN) last month, The Cage has elements of both ring game and tournament play combined into one. The first event is slated for Oct. 8 at 8:00 p.m. ET at the U.S.-friendly WPN.

The entry fee is $5,100 with a start and finish to the event that will last three hours and includes a time clock counting down the time remaining. The Cage is played as a cash game, but players who bust are gone from the event, as re-buys and add-ons are prohibited.

Players start with $5,000 in chips and play three separate blind levels –one for each hour. The first level is $10/$20 with a $2 ante, followed by $25/$50 blinds with $5 antes, and players who survive that long will play the final level at $50/$100 with a $10 ante. Each table has a maximum of six players.

Chips will hold their monetary value and players who survive The Cage can cashout whatever total remains in front of them. It’s a cash game that ends when the clock hits 0:00, but players must stay for the duration. Unless, of course, they lose all their chips.

Last Chance Satellite Remains

WPN flagship skin Americas Cardroom has been running a number of satellites for the past month that have allowed players to gain entry to The Cage for as little as five bucks. Americas Cardroom spokesman Michael Harris confirmed that the prize pool is $100,000 and climbing thanks to a thriving community of serious grinders on WPN’s lead skin.

Players interested in competing in The Cage who may be budget-conscious will be pleased to know that a last chance satellite is set for Tuesday, October 7 at 7:30 p.m. ET. At a buy-in of $300+$20, two seats to The Cage are guaranteed!

It is believed that a number of players who plan on entering The Cage have not yet done so and are waiting until Oct. 8 arrives before plunking down the $5,100 entry fee. You can expect that prize pool to go way beyond the current $100K.

Players interested in The Cage, whether playing or not, can keep abreast of the action via social media. Americas Cardroom aims to post live updates on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and a new blog at the site known as “The Big Blind.” The updates will likely include breakdowns of exciting hands, chip counts, and player profiles of those seated inside The Cage.
