The XL Inferno Series of 888poker has finished up with players earning over $1.85 million in prize money. Out of the eleven days of gaming, only two of the events fell short of their guaranteed prize pools. The XL Inferno was so successful it might have been the best the operator has hosted in many years. Players turned out in record form, generating a total of $1,851,663 in prize money. This is well over the original $1.5 million up for grabs.

Huge Turnout

The total participation in the recent XL Inferno was huge. The series has seen a big spike in participation since 2019. Last year, the series saw a total of 39,378 entries. This year, that number increased by 18% to a total of 46,649 entries. Players could compete in a total of 34 events from May 14th to the 23rd. buy-ins were easily affordable, starting at $5.50 and going as high as $55.

The first tournament was a $109 Opening Event which saw 636 players competing. Then, there were 242 rebuys. this pushed the guaranteed prize pool from $75,000 to $87,800. Another $109 event, the Tune-Up, had a $150,000 prize pool guarantee and saw it increase to $161,500.

However, the biggest even by far was the Main Event with the $250 buy-in. This tournament already had a prize pool set at $500,000. With 1623 players and 523 rebuys, the event added more than $4000 to the total prize money. The winner of the event, ‘junijuniorz’ earned over $85,000 for finishing in first-place.

The smaller Micro Main Event had a $20,000 guaranteed prize pool and saw over 5,000 entries. It was the largest turnout of the entire series.

Only two events were unable to hit their guaranteed prize pools. The $16.50 High Roller fell short by just $1725. The $320 High Roller was short a total of $2200.

Timely Event

The XL Inferno took place at 888poker at a time when players are dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. Most players are staying close to home, avoiding going out at all, even if the option is available. Because players are at home, the cash game traffic and poker tournament traffic at 888poker has increased over the past few months.

To help provide even more gaming for players, 888poker is offering freeroll prizes totaling $500,000. This includes a freeroll taking place next month with a whopping $100,000 up for grabs. Players can earn an entry into a freeroll at the poker site by completing daily missions. For players who are logging on to poker sites anyways, taking part in the daily missions provides the added bonus of earning tickets to freerolls with massive prizes up for grabs.

The online poker business has been able to benefit during the lockdown via players around the world as more and more people are logging online and taking advantage of poker entertainment. There is no doubt the 888 will continue to offer quality gaming options and most likely will provide another tournament option soon to keep players coming back for more.
