Cannuli Fails Challenge, but Leads WPN´s Venom Anyway

Thomas Cannuli ("HolyCannuli")Thomas Cannuli may have failed in his challenge to qualify for WPN´s Venom for free, but he still leads the $5 million guaranteed tournament after Day 1A.

Back in April, likeable pro player Thomas Cannuli [geolink href=””]accepted the challenge[/geolink] of qualifying from freeroll level for the Winning Poker Network´s $5 million guaranteed Venom tournament. His quest involved playing the Venom Steps tournaments at Americas Cardroom until he had acquired three entries for the event. Unfortunately, despite making sixty attempts to win an entry, the furthest he got was Step 5.

His failure to complete the challenge meant he had to buy-in directly to last Sunday´s Day 1A – and then fire a second bullet after being eliminated early in the tournament. Fortunately, his luck changed soon after; and, after doubling up with KK vs. AQ, his aggressive approach took him to the top of the chip counts at the end of the first opening flight. Cannuli is currently 3 million chips clear of his closest rival.

Will Anybody Catch Cannuli before Day 2?

Despite his current massive advantage, Cannuli is not guaranteed to be the tournament chip leader when Day 2 starts on Monday July 22nd. There are two more opening flights scheduled for today and next Sunday; and although today´s Day 1B is expected to attract fewer entries than last Sunday´s Day 1A (so there won´t be so many chips on the table), next Sunday´s Day 1C should be massive.

In addition to it being the last chance for players to play in the Venom event, next Sunday´s Day 1C is also the final opportunity for surviving players from Day 1A and Day 1B to try to perform better and carry forward their biggest chip stacks into Day 2. Furthermore, to give the maximum number of players the chance to qualify for the Venom, the Network is hosting a stack of mega-satellites this week -including one on Sunday morning guaranteeing fifty seats into the target event.

There´s Still Time to Do Your Own Cannuli Challenge

Despite the tournament having already started, the Venom Steps promotion continues until next Sunday. Freeroll Step 1s run every two hours guaranteeing forty tickets to Step 2, which start as soon as ninety players have registered and guarantee twenty-five seats into Step 3. There are six Steps in the promotion, and even the games at the higher levels starts fairly frequently due to the volume of players feeding in through the lower levels.

The Network has also considered the possibility of players being left with multiple Steps tickets as Day 1C of the Venom approaches and has reconfigured some MTT satellites and sub-satellites so that if you have unused Steps tickets in your account you can use them to enter regular Venom satellites. If you win more than one Venom entry, you can resell surplus entries via a Ticket Trade feature set up by the Network – although you may not get the ticket´s full face value.

Don´t Miss the Venom Reload Bonus – 50% up to $500

Also this week, sites on the Winning Poker Network are giving players the opportunity to reload their accounts and claim a 50% reload bonus up to $500. In order to take advantage of this promotion, visit Black Chip Poker or Americas Cardroom before July 24th and make a deposit into your account using the reload bonus code “VENOM”. The bonus is cleared in increments of $5 per 120 Award Points, and you have thirty days in which to clear it.

The reload promotion gives players an excuse to top up their accounts ahead of the Network´s OSS Cub3d series which starts on Sunday. Over the course of the next four weeks, the Network will host 160 feature tournaments guaranteed for more than $13 million. Two of the events have prize pool guarantees of $1 million and satellites are already running for these. So, if you fail in your own Cannuli Venom challenge, there are still opportunities to qualify for a valuable tournament for a small buy-in.
