The second freeroll Freebuy tournament series starts at Americas Cardroom this coming Friday, with $150,000 guaranteed in prize money over the next ten days.
Freebuys are tournaments which are free to enter with the option of paid-for re-buys and add-ons if required. They are not a new concept. PokerStars and 888Poker have been running freeroll tournaments with paid-for top ups for years, but Americas Cardroom has taken the game to a whole new level with a series of fifty-seven Freebuy tournaments that starts on Friday August 28th.
Each tournament is free to enter, with players having the option of paying for re-buys and add-ons – but there is no requirement to do so. This means that a player can create an account with Americas Cardroom for free, enter as many Freebuy tournaments as he or she wishes, and then just cash out their winnings at the end of the series.
Admittedly, players with funds in their accounts have a better chance of making the money. Each event in the Freebuy Super Series II starts with players being given 1,000 chips. Re-buys of 2,500 chips are available during the first three hours of each tournament and, at the end of the re-buy period, players have an option of adding 10,000 more chips to their stack.
We are not saying it is impossible to win a stack of money for nothing – just a bit easier if you have a few dollars in your Americas Cardroom account.
Highlights of the Freebuy Super Series II Schedule
The around-the-clock schedule for the Freebuy Super Series II has events with re-buys and add-ons of $0.01 all the way up to $20.00. Twenty-three of the tournaments have re-buys and add-ons of less than $1.00 and sixteen of the events are Omaha based (PL Omaha and PL Omaha Hi Lo).
The highlights of the series are clustered around the opening three days and the final three days, with the $20,000 guaranteed Main Event taking center stage at 5:30pm ET on Sunday September 6th. Our particular favorites within the rest of the schedule include:

Win a Million Dollar Seat in the Leaderboard Competition
Alongside the Freebuy Super Series II, Americas Cardroom will be running a leaderboard competition – the winner of which will win a seat in the forthcoming Million Dollar Sunday event on September 13th (worth $540.00) plus $100 cash. The site will monitor every player´s fifteen best results and list them on a leaderboard according to their points value.
Points are awarded according to the number of players who enter an event in the Freebuy Super Series II, the individual player´s finishing position and the amount of the re-buys and add-on. The formula for calculating points is pretty complicated, so the best way of calculating how many points you get for each event is to open up a spreadsheet and:
- Enter the number of entries into the first cell (A1),
- Enter the finishing position into the second cell (A2),
- Enter the re-buy/buy-in amount into the third cell (A3).
Then drop this formula into the cell below –

In addition to the winner’s prize, there will be seventeen further prizes up for grabs including entries into Americas Cardroom’s most valuable regular tournaments and cash prizes. In theory, a player who does not pay a penny to play in any of the Freebuy Super Series II events could win a seat into the next Million Dollar Sunday and pick up the $200,000 first prize on September 13th – FOR FREE!
