PokerStars SCOOP Coming in May

The World Series of Poker has already made some major announcements this year, and players have been competing on the WSOPC in a major way. The actual World Series of Poker will be held later this summer, but it’s not the only live poker tour that takes place.

PokerStars is known for having some of the best live poker tournaments in the world, but most of that action takes place online. This company just announced the dates for one of it’s largest events, and things are going to kickoff in May.

The Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) will begin on May 5th, and the event will last all the way until May 28th. This is going to be the 16th edition of this popular event, and the action tends to get better every single year.

While May 5th is still a few weeks away, now is the perfect time for players to start checking out the potential schedule. PokerStars has not yet released the full schedule, but it has promised to deliver a number of different variations of poker, and some massive prize pools.

A Look at Previous Years

In order to fully grasp how big of an event this might be, it is wise to look back at previous years. This event always seems to get bigger and better every single year, but it’s hard to imagine it will be bigger than it was a year ago.

There were a total of 121 tournaments in this event a year ago, but that doesn’t tell the full story. Every event has three different levels of buy-ins so there was actually 363 different ways for players to win.

Over 1.2 million players entered into those events a year ago, and an astonishing $91.9 million in prize money was handed out in those events. One of the events from a year ago had over 65,000 players competing, and PokerStars is known for having some low buy-ins.

The main event last year had a grand prize of more than $1 million, and that is the prize that everyone will be competing for this time around as well. Player from Brazil have had the most success in this event’s history as there have been 370 titles between players from that country.

Regional SCOOPs Are Coming

Players that can’t wait for the main SCOOP in May will have the ability to get into the action at some regional SCOOP events that will begin in April. Players in France, Spain, and Portugal will have the opportunity to win a portion of $10 million in prize money that is spread out between those countries.

Those events are going to be held from April 7-28, but North American players aren’t going to be left out either. Pokerstars offers online tournaments in a number of states, and those games will begin on April 5th.

There will be $5.5 million up for grabs that players in Michigan, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania can split.
