Sentry Tournament of Champions Odds: Thomas Edges Out Rahm

Now that the New Year has begun, the golfing world can re-focus on the 2022 PGA TOUR. The next event on the schedule takes place this week and is none other than the Sentry Tournament of Champions.

The Sentry Tournament of Champions is an annual tournament held on the Plantation Course at the Kapalua Resort in Kapalua, Hawaii and it’ll take place from Thursday, Jan. 6 to Sunday, Jan. 9. The event is exclusive to golfers who won a championship in the previous calendar or placed within the top-30 of the FedEx Cup rankings.

With 39 of the world’s best golfers competing this week, it can be tough to predict who’ll leave Kapalua victorious. Fortunately, BetOnline — once again — has odds on the event and is current favoring Justin Thomas to win it all at +800 odds.

Thomas isn’t a newcomer to the event, having competed at the Sentry Tournament of Champions six times in the past. He certainly never lets his fans down with his performances, placing inside of the top 3 in four of those outings. With that being said, Thomas has won the tournament twice, with the most recent time being in 2020.

Taking that into account, it isn’t a surprise to see that oddsmakers would favor him to win his third title. He’s also placed inside of the top 5 in both of his last two events on the 2022 PGA TOUR, so he’ll also be riding some recent momentum into this week’s festivities.

With a mix of past and recent success, there’s good reason to believe that Thomas will be in it to the end at the Kapalua Resort.

Jon Rahm Sentry Odds

While Thomas is BetOnline’s favorite to win at +800 odds, World No. 1-ranked golfer Jon Rahm isn’t too far behind him at +900.

While Rahm’s odds are as good as they are, he’s yet to find a victory at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. The 27-year-old’s best finish came in 2019, where he placed second. Aside from that, he’s finished anywhere between 7th and 10th in his other three outings at the event.

When it comes to his recent history, the Fortinet Championship is the only 2022 PGA TOUR event that Rahm has competed in thus far. Considering how that was all the way back in September and he failed to make the cut, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him try and re-establish his dominance with a huge performance in Hawaii this week.

Morikawa, DeChambeau Sentry Tournament of Champions Odds

When it comes to the third-best odds, there’s a tie between Collin Morikawa and Bryson DeChambeau, who both sit at +1100.

Morikawa has competed at the Sentry Tournament of Champions twice in his young career, placing 7th in both outings. However, he’s had one of the better starts to the 2022 season in comparison to his peers. After being a part of the Team USA’s Ryder Cup-winning squad, Morikawa has placed 2nd, T-7th and T-5th, respectively, in his last three events. If he can continue that momentum this week, he could be a threat to win in Kapalua.

Meanwhile, DeChambeau also hasn’t seen too much success at the Tournament of Champions. He’s entered the tournament three times, placing 26th once and 7th the other two times. DeChambeau hasn’t played yet on the 2022 PGA TOUR, so this week will give fans their first look at him since the beginning of September. Only time will tell if the time off has him looking better than ever or not.
