Soccer News: MLS is Back Tournament, English Premier League, and More

This is a big weekend for soccer around the globe as the England Premier League comes to an end, the Italian Serie A title race heats up, the MLS Is Back Tournament heads into the knockout round, and the French Cup Final takes place in Paris.

 All Eyes on England

The 38th match week in the English Premier League concludes with all 20 teams in action at the same time Sunday with 11:00 a.m. Eastern time kickoffs. There are still two Champions League spots up for grabs and two relegation spots to be determined.

Manchester United will head to Leicester City in the featured game of the day. Whoever wins gets a precious Champions League spot while Man United clinch a top-four spot with a draw. There is still a scenario will both teams can qualify if Chelsea also loses and Leicester City win.

Manchester United is favored at +120 despite being on the road. The Foxes are +280 at home, and a draw is +250. United dropped points at home against West Ham during the week but moved into third place as Chelsea lost 5-3 at Liverpool.

Speaking of Chelsea, the Blues are at home against sixth-place Wolverhampton. The hosts are -120 to win and secure Champions League football for a second straight win. Wolves can still make Europa League even with a loss but would need Spurs to lose to Crystal Palace. They are +310 to win, and a draw is +280

The relegation battle heated up as Watford lost 4-0 to Man City this week, and Aston Villa knocked off Arsenal at home. Villa stays up with a win at West Ham United, and they are +130, while the Hammers are +200, and a draw is +250. A draw keeps Villa up as long as Watford doesn’t win, and Bournemouth doesn’t win at Everton while making up the goal differential.

Watford is +280 at Arsenal while the Gunners are -115, and a draw is +180. Bournemouth must win and get help from Arsenal and West Ham in the other two games. They are +200 at Everton while the hosts are +120, and a draw is +280.

Italian Title Race Update

Juventus lost on Thursday and can only clinch a ninth-straight title this weekend with a win over Sampdoria and losses by both Atalanta and Inter Milan. Juve is -410 to win while Atalanta is +210 against AC Milan, and a draw for the challengers is +290. Internazionale is -160 against relegation-challenged Genoa, who is +420.

French Cup Final

It has been over four months since any of the French teams have played a meaningful game. That changes Friday as Paris St-Germain face St Etienne in the French Cup Final in Paris. PSG, who won Ligue 1, is -909 to win with St. Etienne at +1605, and a draw is +732. PSG has won 12 French Cups, including four of the last five while St. Etienne last won the cup in 1977.

MLS Knockout Round

Eight teams have been eliminated in the MLS is Back Tournament in Orlando, while the knockout round of 16 teams starts Saturday. The matchups are set with games beginning this weekend and ending Wednesday to set the quarterfinals.

The second Saturday game features Group A runners-up Philadelphia Union against Group C runners-up New England. The Union is a slight favorite at +145 with the Revolution at +150, and a draw is +250.
