Top Poker Brands Step Up to Support Safer Gambling Week in the UK and Ireland

November 19-25 marks Safer Gambling Week. This campaign is taking place in the UK and Ireland as a way to help players stay informed and learn more about responsible gambling. To help with the cause, several top online poker brands are showing their support, including PokerStars, 888poker and more.

Promoting Responsible Gambling

With #SGWeek20, the campaign is being used to provide tools and assistance to players who are regular gamblers. In the past, this event was known as Responsible Gambling Week, but organizers are taking a different approach this year.

The Betting and Gaming Council is behind the action, along with other gaming industry groups. The goal is to raise awareness on how to gamble in the safest manner possible. This year, over 100,000 employees within the gambling industry are participating, by creating conversations with players regarding the activity and how to make smart choices.

Safety tips are provided for gamblers, be it players who enjoy online poker, casino gaming or other formats. Five key gambling behaviors are covered, including only spending what you can afford, setting limits for gambling time and money as well as avoiding gambling when you are upset or angry.

Players are also encouraged to avoid letting gambling affect personal relationships. The campaign places in emphasis on understanding that gambling is not an answer to any problem.

Free Promotional Materials

Online gambling operators have been provided promotional materials to use via social media accounts as well as gaming sites to help players. Materials have been created to provide the five key behaviors as listed above along with tools to help players gamble safely.

Questions are asked via the marketing materials focusing on spending limits and gambling behavior. Resources are also provided to encourage players to have conversations involving safe and responsible gambling.

PokerStars took to Twitter and posted information from the campaign via Tweets. 888poker and partypoker also posted on Twitter with info on SGWeek 2020 and how to find support.

GGPoker took efforts one step further and is sending players based in the UK a message geared towards Safer Gambling Week. The site is highlighting the tools that players have at their disposal to safely enjoy online poker gaming.

In speaking to news source, PokerFuse, Head of PR & Content for GGPoker, Paul Burke, said that the brand has a duty to the community to ensure that the online poker experience is enjoyable at GGPoker and players well-being is a primary consideration.

Burke pointed out that GGPoker works hard to educate players on a regular basis about responsible gambling tools and options. During SGWeek, it is a prime opportunity to refocus on the important message.

In 2019, the campaign was quite successful. The effort reached over 25 million impressions via social media. This year, with so many online gambling companies involved, including major online poker brands, we should see a similar occurrence. It is important that players stay responsible with gambling and ensure they are protected and making smart decisions when wagering for their personal well-being. This gambling responsibility week helps players to remember the vital steps to safety.
