Wynn Las Vegas Continues Fight Against Coronavirus

All of the casinos in the city of Las Vegas are trying to find a way to get through the coronavirus pandemic. Most casinos have banded together to aid in the relief efforts throughout the state, while others are working together to create a reopening plan.

Wynn Las Vegas has been one of the leaders during this pandemic, and they continue to go above and beyond to provide a solution. Wynn Resorts was one of the first companies to submit a reopening plan to Governor Steve Sisolak, and now they have launched a COVID-19 testing site at their location.

The testing site was created in partnership with Nevada’s University Medical Center (UMC). This new site will allow every employee to be tested for the coronavirus, free of charge, before returning to work.

Wynn Resorts CEO Matt Maddox has been hard at work creating a solid reopening plan, and this is the next step that will ensure the safety of both customers and employees. Wynn Las Vegas has not been given the green light to announce an official reopening date by the Governor, but they have all the steps in place to make that happen.

Health care workers from the University Medical Center will be on-site to administer the tests, and the UMC has also developed and opened a lab that will allow for hundreds of tests to be processed each day. Employees will be able to have their results back quickly instead of having to wait a few days before knowing if they are healthy.

Plan Submitted

Casinos and resort properties have been asked to submit their reopening plans to the Nevada Gaming Commission at least seven days before reopening. Wynn Las Vegas already has their plans submitted, but this extra step should ensure that they are one of the first properties to reopen their doors.

Not only has Wynn Resorts been working hard to get their doors reopened, but they have also been one of the leaders in helping to fight the disease. The company has donated more than $3 million worth of food, personal protective equipment, and other supplies to non-profit organizations in both Las Vegas and Boston.

Wynn Resorts has sent up to 70 employees from their call center to the Clark County Commission to help with contact tracing. Contact tracing is one of the key components to fighting the spread and is a major part of the reopening plans in Las Vegas.

Wynn Resorts has also done a terrific job of taking care of their full-time employees throughout the country during this pandemic. There are over 15,000 full-time employees currently without a job, but they continue to receive wages through May 31.

The extensive reopening plans that have been developed by Wynn Resorts has received national attention over the last few days. The Tonkawa Casino and Hotel in Oklahoma has based their own reopening plan off of the one submitted by Wynn Resorts.

Maddox has been a strong proponent of reopening the economy in the state of Nevada as early as mid-May, and he is hoping that his plan allows it to happen. He thinks that increased testing and contact tracing should be the main focus as the state and city of Las Vegas begin to allow casinos to reopen.

Governor Steve Sisolak continues to keep the casino industry shut down, but it appears as if he is getting close to changing his stance. On Saturday, restaurants, barbershops, and other retailers can reopen for business, but with limited occupancy.

The major worry is that Las Vegas will quickly become a huge tourist destination when the state reopens, and Sisolak does not want to have to start this process all over again. Wynn Las Vegas has steps in place to ensure that its location and its employees remain safe.
