Super Bowl 55 Betting Props Guide

The Super Bowl is one of the most popular sports betting events in the world.

As the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, fans are in for an unpredictable game.

While betting as to who will win the game or if the point spread will be met can be fun, there’s another type of bet that adds more entertainment to the equation: proposition bets.

Proposition bets are better known as “prop bets” and let bettors bet on a variety of things, such as how many interceptions a player may have or how long the national anthem will even go.

For example, BetOnline is letting bettors wager whether Tom Brady’s first pass will be a completion (-225), incompletion (+180) or interception (+1800).

With so many different prop options across the board, it can be intimidating to figure out where to start.

Below you’ll find a variety of prop bets you can make for the Super Bowl, either on Bovada or BetOnline.

Super Bowl MVP Odds

One of the most classic Super Bowl prop bets is trying to predict the Most Valuable Player of the game.

According to Bovada, the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes is the MVP favorite at -120. They have also listed Tom Brady as having the second-best odds with +225, with Tyreek Hill (+1000), Travis Kelce (+1200) and Chris Godwin (+2800) rounding out the Top 5.

Much like Bovada, BetOnline also has Mahomes as the frontrunner for the MVP award, also at -120. Brady has the second-best odds at +210, with Kelce (+1100) and Hill (+1200) entering the conversation again. However, BetOnline lists Leonard Fournette as having the fifth-best odds at +2600.

If you want to have even more fun, BetOnline is also letting bettors guess if the MVP winner will mention “Disney” in their speech, with it being -400 that they don’t and +250 that they will.

There is also the option of betting as to who the Super Bowl MVP will mention first in their speech. Bovada lists the winner’s teammates as being mentioned first at -120, while God/Jesus (+200) and the city (+650) are second and third.

The National Anthem

Another classic Super Bowl prop bet concerns the length of the national anthem. BetOnline lists equal odds (both -120) as to whether the national anthem will be shorter or longer than two minutes.

Another anthem-related prop bet on BetOnline is that President Joe Biden is listed at -3000 of being shown on television during the anthem if he’s in attendance at the game.

On the other hand, Bovada lists odds at -250 that either the Chiefs or Buccaneers will have a scoring drive that takes less time than the national anthem does.

Bovada also lets you bet on whether or not one of the anthem singers will omit a word, with the odds that they will forget at least one being list at -250 as well.

Coin Toss

The trademark coin toss is another popular Super Bowl prop bet.

Both the Chiefs and Buccaneers have the same odds as winning the coin toss (-105), according to Bovada, since there are only two options. Although, they also list the team who wins the toss at having better odds at winning the game (-110).

BetOnline is letting bettors also wager whether the team that wins the coin toss will choose to defer or receive.

If the Buccaneers win the coin toss, BetOnline predicts that they’re more likely to defer (-225) than receive (+160). On the other hand, if the Chiefs win the coin toss, they have them more than likely deferring (-2500) than receiving (+900) as well.

COVID-19 Prop Bets

Even at the Super Bowl, it’ll be hard to get away from hearing “COVID-19” and the event’s prop bets reflect that.

BetOnline lists the odds at -700 that under 1.5 players will miss the game due to COVID-19, while the odds that more than 1.5 players will at +400.

Bettors will also be able to wager which word gets mentioned first: “COVID” (-500) or “Pandemic” (+300). The same goes as to whether “Mask(s)” (-300) or “Coronavirus” (+200) is mentioned first.

Political Bets

According to Bovada, the odds are listed at +250 that President Biden is mentioned more than one time. They also list the odds that former President Donald Trump will be mentioned over 0.5 times at +600.

BetOnline is letting bettors wager if Biden will predict a winner before the game, with those odds being at -400 that he won’t and +250 that he will.

Halftime Performance

The Weeknd will be this year’s Super Bowl halftime performer, which means there are performance-related prop bets.

According to Bovada, The Weeknd will most likely start his performance with “Starboy” (+300) and end the show with his popular hit song “Blinding Lights” (-220). Bettors can also bet on how many songs will be played, with the odds being at -180 that he’ll play more than eight.

Bettors can also wager whether or not ANY performer during the halftime show has a wardrobe malfunction. Bovada has a wardrobe malfunction happening at +1200 while listing nothing happening at -7500.

Super Bowl halftime performances usually draw in a celebrity cameo or two, which is another prop that can be bet on. For example, Bovada lists musical superstars like Ariana Grande (+425), Doja Cat (+425) and Drake (+500) as having chances of appearing onstage.

There are also politically-related halftime prop bets. Bovada is listing the odds that The Weeknd won’t mention Biden at -2000, which are the same odds that he won’t mention Trump.

Super Bowl Commercials

While a lot of viewers tune into the Super Bowl for the game and halftime performance, many just want to see new commercials premiering.

Guess what? You can make prop bets on those too.

BetOnline lists Bud Light as having the best odds (+100) of being the first Anheuser-Busch brand to have a commercial this year.

Bettors also have the option of betting on which Jim Henson-created Muppet character will appear first in a DoorDash commercial. BetOnline has Grover (+200), Cookie Monster (+250) and Kermit the Frog (+300) as the top three options.

BetOnline is also saying that the odds are that there won’t be a Star Wars commercial (-200), but there will be some sort of major movie trailer that debuts (-200).

Other Interesting Prop Bets

Bettors can also engage in other fun prop bets, such as how many times announcer Tony Romo mentions his children/kids. Odds of him mentioning his kids under 0.5 is listed at -300 while the over is at +200, according to BetOnline.

Betting on how many times Tom Brady’s supermodel wife, Gisele Bundchen, is shown on television throughout the game is also up for grabs. BetOnline has over 1.5 times listed at -250.

Even though they aren’t on the same team anymore, it’s hard not to think of New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick when thinking of Brady. That’s why Bovada has the odds at -175 that Belichick will be mentioned more than one time over the broadcast.

Super Bowl LV isn’t the only major upcoming football event.

This year marks the 17th Puppy Bowl, where viewers can tune in to see puppies wrestling around with a football. Unsurprisingly, there are prop bets for that as well.

Both BetOnline and Bovada have the two teams, Team Fluff and Team Ruff, as having equal odds of winning at -120. According to Bovada, there is a better chance that a male will be the Puppy Bowl MVP (-140) as opposed to a female (EVEN).
